Almost Half Of Twitter’s Users Have Never Tweeted

A lot of new users are running to open Twitter accounts. We have seen a sharp decline in the popularity of Facebook but Twitter still remains a favorite. But the main issue faced by Twitter is that the users don’t tweet. A recent report has shown the fact the 44% of Twitters users haven’t even tweeted once. A company called Twopcharts provided this data.

Twitter claims that they have 241 million monthly active users. The company policy states that an active user is defined as one where the user logs in at least one time in a month. They do not mention the act of tweeting to consider a person as an active user. The way Twitter works makes it very enjoyable for users to read about myriad topics even without tweeting themselves. Twitter helps users to read news in real-time and track all the latest developments as a part of their social network. Hence one does not have to be an active user to enjoy the experience.

But the company thrives on activity and content generation from users. An active group of users are the most valued customers of Twitter. Tweets, retweets, favorites and other actions boost the advertising revenues of Twitter. Hence they have made it simple for users to perform these actions by building a user-friendlier social interface. It looks as though accounts on Twitter don’t really reveal a lot. It may also infer that such users make use of this platform to harness news.

As per Twopcharts 30% of current Twitter accounts have sent 1-10 tweets. Only 13% of the accounts have sent more than 100 tweets. This also suggests the retention rate of users. It estimates 542.1 million accounts tweeted atleast one time after they were created. This brings out the fact that at least half of the accounts may have attempted to use the platform. Only 23% of those accounts have been tweeting in the last 30 days.
