Playing tight means keeping a close tab on the number of hands you tend to play. Basically, the guy who plays few hands is generally a tight player. Few hands could mean 10%-25% of the total hands being played on the table. Tight players too can be further divided into passive and aggressive players.
Players that tend to be part of the action on most occasions are generally termed loose players. Here too there is a sub classification. Players who play too many hands and bet aggressively belong to the loose-aggressive category. The opposite, who play many hands but don’t back it up with strong bets are termed loose-passive players.
There is another category of online poker players – the maniacs. These are the trigger-happy guys on the table; playing hands they have no business being part of. These are loose players who don’t have a particular strategy in place and bet without any solid reason or logic. They can often be turn out to be spoilers at an online poker table.
