Romanian authorities issue three online gambling licenses within one week
The Romanian National Office of Gambling published the first list of three operators that were granted temporary right to offer online gambling services in Romania.
As per industry reports, three major companies agreed to pay the back-tack in in a bid to acquire their license.
StanleyBet, one of the licensees, is a well-established brand in Romania thanks to their high volume of betting shops spread all over the country. The company is owned by S.C. Right Betting S.R.L. and is registered in Bucharest, Romania.
NetBet was another company that managed to secure the license. NetBet is operated by Cosmo Gaming Company LTD and is registered in Malta. The company also licensed the first online casino in Romania. NetBet, by virtue of acquiring temporary license, will offer online sports book and casino in Romania.
The third operator on that list is WinMasters, a company has been operating in the Romanian market for quite a while. WM Interactive Limited, registered in Malta, operates this company. Despite being listed 2nd by the National Office for Gambling, WinMasters’ marketing heads have opted to market the brand as the first licensed operator in Romania. WinMasters will offer online sports betting, casino and poker in the country.
First license was in fact issued to NetBet. The Romanian Nation Office of Gambling has also produced a list of blacklisted operators. In the coming months, this list is expected to expand.
Big brands like Bet365, William Hill, Bwin, Betfair or Casino.com did not find a mention on the list of banned operators, which have led to speculation of possible backroom talks between the parties involved with the authorities.
