Users Watching Videos on Facebook Will Now See Increase In Video Ads

If you tend to watch a lot of videos on social media site Facebook, there are chances of your page being target with video ads by marketers. This is due to the new tool that is incorporated by Facebook that helps brands target customers. This news was reported by Mashable.

If for a brand, the number of views are important, they must notify that to Facebook, who will make sure their video ads are placed to maximize views through clicks. In an attempt to improve their video ad offering, Facebook not only added this new targeting tool, but has also incorporated several other features to help marketers.

Every video ad can now include a call to action or CTA at the end of it. This helps them to re-target users by luring them into checking out more videos. There has been a vast improvement in the precision of the targeting tools of Facebook.

Facebook rolled out Premium video ads in match. However, the latest features do not apply with it. The advantage of standard video ads are they there is no specific length, they don’t auto-play and they contain a label that says, “sponsored”, so the user knows it is a sponsored ad and has the option to ignore it.

This latest development is a cleat indication of the company’s foray into video advertising at a larger scale. The market for video ads on the world’s biggest social network is pretty big and marketers know their ads will draw a lot of eyeballs.

The social media giant is also working with Ace Metrix, a TV advertising firm to help them screen all their premium ads before they appear on the website. This is more of a quality assurance measure adopted by Facebook to make sure the ads won’t upset the users.

Facebook will implement these new tools in just a matter of weeks for the standard video ads. Hence users who tend to watch a lot of videos on Facebook will have sponsored video ads appearing on their timeline.

Twitter Changes Its Web Font to Gotham Narrow SSm

On Friday, micro-blogging site Twitter made an alteration to its web font for user profiles by opting for a more narrow and silkier look. Yes, the Twitter web font has changed to Gotham Narrow SSm, which is among the more popular fonts on the Internet.

Gotham Narrow SSm is a Hoefler & Co., a New York City based type foundry, product. The change of font as been implemented on the dot com site already as tweets, user profiles, sidebars and other pages already appear in this narrower font. Even thing s like the embed code for tweets has this new font.

It was evident on Friday that Twitter was planning to roll out these changes as the main stream on Twitter’s homepage was switching between the new and old font. However, there seems to be no change to the font for the Twitter web interface on tabs and smartphones as Helvetica Neue, Arial or the system default sans-serif fonts are still prevalent.

There has been no announcement of the latest changes by Twitter via their official blog but their Support account did tweet about this. It must also be noted that despite new profiles on Twitter had launched in February, they had not been integrated into most user pages until very recently.

Omnicom and Twitter Sign Deal Worth $230 million

Social media giant Twitter has signed a new deal with Omnicom Group Inc's (OMC.N) media services division. This was first reported by the Wall Street Journal. The deal is worth $230 million.  As per this deal, Omnicom’s automated ad buying unit, Accuen will be integrated with MoPub, Twitter’s mobile ad exchange.

The deal has been signed for a period of 2 years. This deal will lock in ad rates and inventory access for all the agencies of Omnicom and will also grant new ad united and better opportunities being built by Twitter.

The deal is aimed at improving price and targeting. Jonathan Schaaf, president of U.S. Digital Investment for Omnicom Media Group, conveyed this. He said:

"Twitter's been a major advertising partner for our clients in the past...(Omnicom) wanted to form a closer business relationship with Twitter that extends beyond just media buying."

Brian Wieser, analyst of Pivotal Research Group said:

"The news reflects positive business momentum for Twitter and the fact that Twitter can sustain its revenue growth independently of growth in numbers of users given Twitter's uniqueness as a communications medium for marketers.”

In fact, Twitter had acquired MoPub in September 2013 for almost $350 million. It is widely expected by Omnicom that mobile advertising will be driver of greater traffic for advertising in the near future.

Omnicom's Schaaf said:

"The average consumer spends a quarter of their daily screen time with their mobile device and it's only about 10 percent of the total marketing dollars, so I'd expect that to level off."

Mark Zuckerberg Summoned By Court Over Privacy Breach Complaints

A conservative court in Iran has summoned Mark Zuckerberg, the high profile CEO of Facenook by opening a case against messenger services like WhatsApp and Instagram. ISNA reported these latest developments. This case has been opened due to several complaints over the violation of privacy.

This underlines the increasing problems between Iran’s President, who is in favor of greater freedom in the online domain and the judiciary of the country who is in favor of censorship. This case has been opened in Fars, the southern province of Iran. Numerous citizens have complained against social media sites for breach of privacy.

Ruhollah Momen-Nasab, an Internet official in the country said:

"According to the court's ruling, the Zionist director of the company of Facebook, or his official attorney must appear in court to defend himself and pay for possible losses."

There are reports that the CEO of the social media giant will not heed the summons. This is another issue in the long list of issues between the two countries (Iran and USA).

Usage of Internet is very high in Iran. This is due to attempts by several younger Irani citizens to subvert the ban on western services. Extremely famous and popular websites like Twitter and Facebook are filtered by the administration in Iran.

The current President, Mr Rouhani, is constantly battling the hardliners in the country who advocate Internet censorship. He feels the country must avail all the benefits that the Internet brings to the people. Hence they intend to introduce a concept of “smart filtering” that would hold out website considered immoral by the government.

Posts of New Facebook Users Won’t Be Automatically Public Now

As reported on Wall Street Journal, Facebook’s little blue dinosaur has made a comeback. He sent warnings to certain Facebook members that were posting who were publicizing that people across the globe would be able to see their writing last month.

However, now, Facebook said the cartoon would be doing more complete
This time around, Facebook says, the cartoon will be conducting more complete “privacy checkups” on more members.

The Privosaurus Rex initiative is an attempt by the social media giant to remind members that regret sharing information later that they must be careful at the time of posting news. Facebook’s effort to remind users, some of whom regret their sharing decisions after the fact, to be mindful when they post.

The checkup includes a walk through Facebook’s “App Control Panel,” which will list the other websites and apps where a user registered through the “Facebook Login” feature. For people who use Facebook Login liberally, this could lead to a rude awakening when they find out the various bits of personal information they’ve been supplying to other apps.

Hence this is an attempt by Facebook to remind members about user privacy, which will prevent them from leaving the social media site out of fear of privacy with regards to the data they have shared.

The company has been testing this feature for a while and it plans to launch it for use within the next few weeks. This privacy checkup will be translated into many other languages as well.

Another announcement that was also made by Facebook was the changing of default setting in terms of the posts by new users from “public” to “friends.” It was 2009 when this setting was made public and now they are amending the settings as per the feedback from users.
